Hold Tight & Reach Hard: Poetry and Prose

I didn’t set out to write a book. I thought I was scribbling down poems, fragments, moments. But in hindsight, it was therapy. A way to sort through addiction, uncertainty, regret, loss, and the quiet moments in between.

Most of the pieces are confessional. It is my soul exposed in the act of exposing it. That may be why some people lean into it. They see a part of who they are, or were, in some of the words. I think it lands better in your ears than on the page, but I’m biased.

A friend described the book as what it feels like to read an Edward Hopper painting. She didn't know I was a fan - and I didn't know I wrote like him. He painted life's quiet middle. I am life's quiet middle.
